Join the Band
All youth ages 8 to 18 who are interested in learning the Scottish bagpipes and drums are welcome to join the band at any time during the year. Simply reach out to us at info@lsrfmpb.ca to confirm our practice location, or subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date on band activities.
Our mission
The LSFRMPB focuses on musical instruction and group performance. The band is a place where students learn to play the pipes or drums and can develop teamwork, camaraderie, and leadership at the same time. Individual and band competition is an optional part of membership in the band.
What we do
Youth between the ages of 8 and 18 may join the band as a beginner piper, snare drummer, tenor drummer or bass drummer. Beginner instruction is either individual or small group instruction, and all progress at their own pace. All instruction is free and all musical instruments are provided by the band. Bagpipes and drums are given to our students when they are ready to use the instruments; beginners will start with a practice chanter or drumsticks and practice pads.
When do we meet
Beginners practice on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to approximately 10:00 throughout the school year. Full members of the band practice from 9:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Practices are held at alternate locations, watch our weekly band message for details, or contact us. In addition to practicing, the band performs a number of times throughout the year.
